Myofascial Release for the Post Surgical Patient

Sponsored by the Osteopathic of Ontario

Presented by
Kate Anderson-DeFazio RMT, CMFR SI, DOMTP

Objectives:

1. To understand the myofascial release techniques direct and indirect to treat surgical trauma such as scars and protective postures the body has adopted due to the duress of surgery.
2. To Review the affected anatomy and physiology and understand the mechanisms of the five surgeries discussed in this course. The five surgeries are bunion surgery, hip replacement, cesarean birth, bowel resection, and mastectomy.
3. To review, understand and treat the compensating structures for each post surgical body presentation.
4. To palpate, evaluate and treat fascial tissue using the MFR techniques directly to break the bonds of adhered tissue and promote hydration.
5. To palpate and understand the various scar presentations.
6. To understand and review the conditions and/or disease processes that proceeded surgery.
7. To palpate, evaluate and treat all postural dysfunction as a result of presenting scar tissue.
